I was loving the color of these steers in the evening sun. It’s amazing to me how much a color can change depending on the time of day.

Mini Me
I wish I would have blogged these pictures back in December when I took them so I could remember why it was that Dallie looked like this (attitude and all). All I remember is that she came out of the boys’ room with Ryder’s head lamp and horse and full of attitude to tell me something. I hope since she has my teenage attitude now that she’ll have my little girl attitude when she’s a teenager.

Jump Rope for Heart
The kids did Jump Rope for Heart the other day at school. I got there as they finished pole bending in the middle of the road (I love going to a small school in a small town).
The school kids.
And the school kids as they really are.

Pinewood Derby
Our first pinewood derby was a success. The boys had a good time. Ryder even got to build one and race it.
Here the boys are during the building process.
Kache’s car did pretty good. I think he only lost to the car that won the whole thing. His car is red with blue stripes (I’m glad he didn’t go with Boise State colors because there were a lot of those there).
Kache’s loss to the champ.
After the cubs were done racing, Ryder got to race in the novice race. His is John Deere green and he won.
And then he barely lost to the cub champ.
The Sandhills Branch scouts came to race too, so Kache had some friends there (Jacob and Creed).

First Ride
Riggin took his first ride today. It was short, just from the house to the barn. I was reluctant to let him ride at all since Jason was riding Anne that day, and I never know how she is going to act.

Afternoon Walk
We’ve been having such nice weather that we had to go out and enjoy it. The grass is turning green and the water fowl are nesting. And the muskrat population is getting out of control. On our 1/4 mile walk we saw way too many to be good.
I haven’t figured out what this bird is yet, but it looks like here he is doing the flamingo.
The geese and muskrats must have a symbiotic relationship. I think the geese nest on top of the rat’s nests.
Since taking these pictures, some guys came out and trapped on our home meadow and caught 575 muskrats. They skin them and sell the pelts for $10 each. They made good money off our meadow, but I don’t know that it is worth having to skin the nasty things.

Cute Baby
Riggin is so nice to take pictures of because he doesn’t move. And he’s so cute. So just some pictures of Riggin at nearly 7 months old. I love the last picture that Dallie took because it looks like he is waving.

Treasure Hunting
We took a walk to the bone yard where the boys (Kache) love to find treasures. We have come home with some pretty cool old bottles, but haven’t hit the jackpot of old horse-drawn wagons yet (I’m afraid they’re buried too deep to find). But we still have a good time exploring anyway.
Kache headed home with some treasures (an old pot, a dog or coyote skull and cows teeth…lucky me).
Ryder was smart enough to put his treasures in the stroller so he didn’t have to haul them home.

A Blast From the Past
With her side pony tail, pink and purple shoes, and acid-wash shorts, Dallie looks like me when I was her age.
And FYI Mom and sisters, I’ve been catching up on my blog the past couple of days, so there are new posts all the way back to December.
