Update

Riggin is four weeks old and still sleeping through the night (about 7 hours).  I still hold and feed him for most of the other 17 hours of the day.  I keep thinking any day now he should chunk up, but he is still very skinny.  He is barely out of newborn diapers.  He got lots of packages in the mail this past week from Erica, Trish and Grandma Nielson and other gifts from the locals (neighbors and friends from church).  He went to church for the first time this Sunday because our branch presidency was being reorganized.  Jason was released as 2nd counselor and called as 1st counselor.

Ryder lost his first tooth last week.  The tooth fairy must have had lots of deliveries that night because she didn’t get to our house until breakfast the next morning and she only brought loose change.

I had to include this picture of Dallie.  I don’t always have time to get her dressed and hair and teeth brushed in the morning before we leave for school, so this is what she looks like when she takes care of herself.

She came in with a “yucchini” from the garden the other night looking like this.

Three Weeks Later

Three weeks ago it was 100o.  Today it hasn’t even reached 50o.  Three weeks ago I had the AC set to 71o.  Today I have the heat set to 71o.  Three weeks ago I couldn’t get Riggin to eat.  Today I have fed Riggin every hour.  Three weeks ago Dallie was excited to have a baby brother.  Today Dallie wants to trade her baby brother in for a baby sister.  I guess a lot can happen in three weeks.

Everyone except Dallie seems to be adjusting to having a new baby around.  The kids still want to hold him all the time.  He is very demanding during the day.  I hold him pretty much all day, so I don’t get much else done.  But he is still sleeping good at night.  My other kids were two months old when they started sleeping through the night.  Riggin was two weeks old.  I’m still not sure he is going to keep sleeping this well, but I’ll take it for now.  He’s still pretty tiny.  He’s still in newborn diapers.  He has Jason’s wrinkly forehead.  He loves bath time.  He caked with me this week for the first of many times.

In other news, the boys are enjoying school (Ryder a little more than Kache).  Dallie woke up extra early to go with Jason to the neighbor’s house (they’re preconditioning calves and Dallie was invited to play with their three year old).  It’s been nice to have a quiet house today.  Jason’s overwhelmed with ranch, church and family responsibilities.  We’re still waiting for the slow fall season to start, but it probably won’t happen until winter.  It’s been an adventure for me this week to make the drive to school.  Riggin doesn’t like our rough road (neither do I).  But so far I haven’t been late.  And I better get off the computer if I want it to stay that way.

Tis the fog season.  It makes for pretty mornings on the meadows.

Two Weeks

At two weeks old, Riggin is doing much better at sleeping during the night.  For the past two nights, he’s slept for 8 hours.  I hope it isn’t just a fluke deal.  He has been eating constantly during the day, and even if he isn’t eating, I have to hold him, but I can live with it if he sleeps at night.  He’s still a little yellow, so if he will sleep during the day without me holding him, I try to keep him in the sun.  He loves taking a bath.  His eyes seem huge for his small head and body (I’m sure his head won’t stay small for long) and he has dimples (in his cheeks, not chin).  I don’t know where they came from, but they are cute.
